Democracy on Social Media: The Analysis of the New Criminal Code Ratification Polemic on Twitter

The new Criminal Code (Kitab Undang-undang Hukum Pidana/KUHP) passage on December 6, 2022, sparked a significant conversation Twitter, with pro and con responses making it trending topic. Among these responses, certain influential actors disseminated messages that had the potential to shape public opinion, even if information was not always accurate. This research utilizes social network theory map conversations surrounding netizens’ reactions ratification media platforms. study employs descriptive analysis methods analyze three key variables: structure, groups, actors. Data collected using NodeXL Pro between 6 10, 2022. findings revealed although consisted of 25,245 59,396 relationships, level interconnectivity among relatively loose, indicating weaker mostly one-way relationships. Furthermore, came from diverse backgrounds profiles. confirms ability platforms connect individuals without physical face-to-face interactions. At group level, discussions regarding were divided into various topics, highlighting different perspectives opinions. presence reflects inclusive nature network, exemplifying concept digital opinion movements emergence spaces.
